Aug. 19th, 2005 05:11 pm 恋におちたら~僕の成功の秘密~の感想...Thoughts on Koi ni Ochitara

This series is my favorite dorama of all time now. I'm so glad Shimao turned 'evil'. Otherwise it would've been another series like Gokusen, with repetitive episodes. Subbing this series has been really fun.

There are still a few mysteries though...
- Why does Takayanagi never wear a tie? (Or even button his dress shirt?)
- Why does Mamoruko-san hate everyone?
- Why did Takayanagi need 2 secretaries?
- Suzuki Screws Ltd. bought Frontier, did Shimao just let Frontier seperate? How come there's a Frontier employee who doesn't even know about Suzuki Screws?
- Why, oh why, did Engine get a better TV-rating?

Shimao is the president of Frontier now. He is confident that he will be able to make Frontier bigger than ever before. However, Takayanagi warns Shimao about Sakuraba, and Kamiya doesn't trust him either. Can Sakuraba be trusted? Or is Takayanagi and Kamiya up to something?

Jul. 11th, 2005 12:06 pm 第八話の感想 ~ Thoughts on ep 8

One particular scene the one I really enjoyed in this episode was "The wrath of the bonito". It was so cool where the fish had its eyes on Tanizaki from the beginning, and we got the fish's perspective when Ryuta was slapping him. I'm glad Mariko got to see how nice Ryuta really is.

There were a lot of analogies in this ep (Frankenstein and monster vs. Takayanagi and Shimao, Hemingway vs. Takayanagi, Takayanagi vs. his father). It was really enjoyable.

Fujii is such a shameless money chaser :(
She didn't have to say it out loud so proudly.

Lloyd's subsidiary company, S&I Corp. Does it stand for Suzuki & Island? That would be a funny name for a company.

What surprised me most, was how Shimao's face really changed. Shimao's acting is incredible, and the power of makeup/camera work in this series amazes me once again.

T-Shirt of the day: "Give a man a fish, and he will eat it for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and he'll be gone every damn weekend"
Weird customer of the day: An incredibly smart guy. Said "I'm in a hurry", I said "It'll just take a few seconds", and he said "How long does it take for me to get it back?" It's rare to see people who is so conscious about the value of money in an amusement park

Jul. 3rd, 2005 08:07 pm Busy, busy, busy

Man, it was a busy week, with all the work that I had to do, and all the Japanese video that I had to see (I had approx. 5GB of videos that I didn't see yet, and my HD had 276kb of memory left...) I didn't even touch the subtitles for the past week. Sorry, all my viewers! I will start working on it again starting tonight.

Jun. 25th, 2005 09:55 pm Jun. 18th, 2005 10:20 am 第七話の感想 ~ Thoughts on ep 7

This episode was exactly the opposite of what I was expecting from this dorama. When I finished watching the first episode, I thought Shimao would succeed in one assignment after another, and eventually convince Takayanagi that money is not the solution to everything. I wasn't expecting Shimao to turn into a cold-hearted business machine.
It was cool watching Shimao walking to the office for the first time as an executive. So much has changed since the first time. Miyazawa, who pushed Shimao twice before, is now working under him. The receptionist, who denied him access, and cut off his call (blacklisted) now greets him as "Director Suzuki". Toyota, who picked up Shimao when he was jobless, now greets him as he goes into the building. Frontier receptionist, who once led the security guard Shimao to Takayanagi also greets him as he goes in. Shimao is no longer an outsider, and is completely respected by almost everyone in Frontier now. A bit of spoiler but... I was surprised by how Mamoruko-san is able to see the future so clearly. She was right on money when she predicted that Shimao would become someone like Takayanagi, and that Shimao would believe that he got to where he is due to his ability when other tell him that "a hundred times"
Though very predictable, Shimao's response to Giga Works president when he came to Frontier really cracked me up. He got a taste of his own medicine, and it was bitter :(

Shimao makes a suggestion for future takeover, but Takayanagi turn them down, saying "They are too risky". What is he scared of? Wonders Shimao. Few days later, his suggestions are rejected again. "You work under me", says Takayanagi. Shimao starts planning for takeover of Frontier, and contact Sakuraba from Lloyd Brothers. Can Shimao actually take Frontier from Takayanagi? Or does Takayanagi still have a trick up his sleeve?

Jun. 18th, 2005 10:20 am 第六話の感想 ~ Thoughts on ep 6

Well, I wasn't expecting Takayanagi to become a 'good man' so early in the series, but it surprised me when he actually sold Toujou Trading for triple price. I was expecting him to back out of the deal or something, but he's truely evil

I just realized that Mamoruko-san and general manager Kirino can somehow communicate without words... Now that I think of it, she nodded to Mamoruko-san in ep2 to give him the champain, and Mamoruko-san signalled Kirino in ep5 to stop Kamiya from talking. In this episode, Mamoruko-san, tells Kirino that the reporter has something to say telepathically. I wonder what their relationship is. Maybe it will be revealed in later episodes.

Kusanagi(Shimao)'s acting was pretty good in this episode. He acted out the anger scene surprisingly well (even spits).

T-Shirt of the day: "We are #5 because our kids are #1"
Weird customer of the day: My new hero. This man in his late 50's wearing a Magna Golf Club's jacket with a wad of $20 and $50 bills comes to me, sees the picture, and orders a 'super saver package', and a 'viewer package' w/o hesitation. Ask me how long it will take for it to be made ("It will only take 3 minutes", I said), said "I will be back in 3 minutes then", and came back exactly 3 minutes later, when I just finished cutting the last picture. Takes the bag, and leaves in a hurry, after politely thanking me.

Next day, Shimao and Mariko are getting ready to leave their house. Sakuraba, a representative from the securities company in the US meets with Shimao, telling him he should start his own business. Another hot day, I can't imagine how hot it's gonna be in middle of the summer.
Some people in Wonderland is really pissing me off now. This idiot said he will take my picture for 5 bucks. As if I get paid that much for a picture! I hope people start realizing that I'm just doing my job.

Jun. 5th, 2005 07:55 pm 第五話の感想 ~ Thoughts on ep 5

I was really surprised by the acting of Tanihara Shosuke(Kamiya). I couldn't believe my eyes as that crappy teacher from Gokusen 2 put up such an impressive performance. It really moved me when he said "That's why, I will never accept you", and he seriously almost made me cry when he said he doesn't think Shimao was wrong. This is by far my favorite episode so far. Apart from Kamiya's exceptional performance, it really shows how charismatic Shimao is, and why Takayanagi should fear him.

I'm glad that Kamiya has finally realized that money isn't everything (as Takayanagi said). Shimao's way seems way better as shown in truck driver's scene. Kamiya was calling the taxi company, but Shimao had already found a ride by the time it connected. The driver also didn't take the money, and said good luck to Shimao. In the end, he gets free meal from both Air Dream's president and Mamoruko-san, and realize that they taste better.

It was a surprise for me when it turned out that the lady who works at the country house turned out to be president Yoshikawa. I was thinking that maybe she would help Shimao and Kamiya in end (after getting something other than money), or that she was the president's wife. I'm glad this series is getting less predictable.

Jun. 5th, 2005 07:40 pm 第六話のあらすじ ~ Synopsis for ep 6

Takayanagi is asked to buy off an unsuccessful company owned by Toujou-san, his father's best friend. Toujou-san had done the same for Takayanagi's father before. This acquisition will produce no profit for Frontier. Meanwhile, Morimura(From ep4, whose music company got taken over by Frontier, and sworn to revenge" gives info to a reporter in order to damage Takayanagi's public image. Takayanagi agrees to Toujou's demands despite opposition from other management members. Takayanagi then makes Suzuki person in charge for this negotiation. Did Takayanagi really change? Or is there a hidden agenda?

Jun. 5th, 2005 05:46 pm Koi ni Ochitara / Canada's Wonderland

I finally decided to start a new blog! I promise I will keep it up this time. This will serve as my Koi ni Ochitara updates and 'Say bad things about people who refuse to have their photo taken' journal for now.

Anyway, I'm watching a lot of Japanese dorama right now. My favorite so far is 恋におちたら~僕の成功の秘密~ (Koi ni Ochitara ~Secret of my success~), which I'm making E-subs and posting it at D-Addicts.com. Starring Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (member of SMAP), Tsutsumi Shinichi (Good Luck!!), and others. All the casts and special guests each episode put up really good acting, and the story is very good despite the crappy synopsis. This drama also has exceptionally good camerawork and matching background music. I'm definitely going to buy the soundtrack for this.

This dorama about Shimao, a "good guy" who runs a small screw factory handed down from his father. He's a kind man who does everything he can to help others. Takayanagi, a president of a large IT company on the other hand, is all about money, and doesn't care about other people's feelings at all. Shimao eventually goes bankrupt and work under Takayanagi, and gets many difficult assignments that involves dishonesty. The first two episodes are a bit predictable, but it gets really interesting as the show progress.

I'm also watching other dorama series such as Engine, Attack No.1, Magarikado no Kanojo etc. Lately though, I've been hooked on London Hearts, but the DL is WAY too slow (>.<)

T-Shirt of the day in Wonderland: This fat, bearded guy's "Who are these kids, and why do they call me 'Dad'" T-shirt.
Weird customer of the day in Wonderland: Three guys in 20s. Two guys lifted a guy for the pose, and they collapsed. (Unfortunately, no one was seriously hurt)
